It’s Been Quite A Year So Far...Sporting-Wise Anyway!

Can there be any more sporting excitement this year? Yes the weather’s not been great, yes the economy is in a bleak state...and Kate Middleton’s privacy has been breached. However all is not lost, at least for sports fans, as the UK (and Europe) has delivered across multiple sports. BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Awards may have to run longer than 2 hours this year.

It’s been refreshing to not only hear the negativity surrounding football and cricket, as we have seen what is probably the greatest year for British sport...ever. Bradley Wiggins won the Tour De France in what is said by many to be the greatest sporting achievement ever made by a British athlete, and then went on to win a gold medal at The Olympics. Since the Olympics we have had a great Paralympics, Rory McIlroy winning one of golf’s majors, Andy Murray winning the US Open tennis and most recently Europe defying all the odds to win the Ryder Cup on American soil with a team packed with Brits.

Looking back at our Olympic and Paralympic year at London 2012, could it have been any better? A record number of golds at both events, and a team of volunteers to be proud of. From Mo Farah to Jessica Ennis to the rowers, cyclists, boxers....the list goes on. A great pick-me-up for our troubled nation, most will be surprised at what was achieved. Who would have thought that the Paralympics would match, and some would say better, the Olympics. Britain has new sporting heroes from David Weir, Jonnie Peacock and Hannah Cockcroft in the Olympic Stadium to Ellie Simmonds in the Aquatics Centre and Sarah Storey at Brands Hatch.

It’s now all about the “Olympics Legacy” and let’s hope that all the hard put in by so many is not wasted. We all need to do our bit and here at RentMyItems we hope that those who have rarely used sporting equipment at home will list their items with us so that those who may be tempted by trying something new have the opportunity to try things out. Bikes, rowing machines, running machines, golf clubs (golf is being introduced at the next Olympics in Rio de Janeiro), list them all.

Not long now until Christmas and people needing to rent tableware, fold-up beds and Christmas tree stands!
