Global Sharing Day Is Nearly Here!
Global Sharing Day is nearly upon us. It’s this Sunday (2nd June) and this year’s focus is on something we all love....FOOD! The People Who Share have worked tirelessly to bring this event to us all and with the focus on food they have partnered with The Eden Project to promote The Big Lunch.
The aim of The Big Lunch is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours once a year. It’s all about community, friendship and fun. Since its launch in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all types of community across the UK and as many as eight and a half million people have taken part in events.
A Big Lunch can be anything from a few neighbours getting together in the garden or on the street, to a full blown street party with food, music and decoration that quite literally stops the traffic. The website has an array of ideas on hosting a lunch, from the food (obviously) to decorations, activities, entertainment and charity fundraising.
And if you do get involved you could become part of a world record. That’s the goal, set a world record for the greatest number of people sharing food in a single day. Just think, you could play a part in an entry into the Guinness Book Of World Records!
There are other ways you can get involved too: sign up to share a meal at mealsharing.org, or share food you have in your cupboards but are not likely to eat, with food banks who are feeding the hungry via trusselltrust.org, or you can volunteer to help share food with those in need at fareshare.org.uk.
The good people at The People Who Share have put together a little brochure on all things Collaborative Consumption and we are lucky enough to get a mention within “5 Ways To Share You can save £20,000 a year!”. There are ideas on journey sharing, meal sharing, Shwopping (that’s clothes shwopping. You can Shwop your old clothes at M&S or a local clothes swap), borrowing and renting, and skill sharing.
Get involved in Global Sharing Day: you could help the needy, raise money for charity, be a record breaker and have FUN!
Just in case you haven’t read our previous blog....we are currently raising money to invest in RentMyitems and we thought we would share it with you through crowdfunding. You can invest as little as £10 in our pitch on the Seedrs website.
