Well, it has certainly been a challenging and exciting year.
RentMyItems.com launched in September with much media coverage. The concept and site had been in development, from initial brainwave by founder Warren Heal, to fully-fledged website in just over a year. Much planning had gone into the site and launch and, like all best laid plans, many things were great, and a few things were challenging.

We're delighted that there is further press coverage for RentMyItems.com today, this time an interview with Warren Heal, founder of the site, in today's editions of Metro - though they did get the domain wrong by missing out the 's'!

Valentine's Day is getting closer and the pressure to come up with a romantic and individual idea for your loved one might prove harder than you'd think, especially if you are looking for ways that won't break the bank. Maybe this year, to save on some dosh you could have a DIY Valentine’s Day and either make something nice yourself or rent something useful to make the day more special. In most cases a gift that is self made will be liked more too, as it shows that time and effort has gone into making it instead of just grabbing something from your local store.

Netmums, the UK's fastest-growing online parenting organisation, surveyed over 2,000 of its members earlier this month to investigate how the economic downturn was hitting families' incomes and what the impact of rising prices was having on families around the UK. Their research found:

With a grey sky outside and much gusting the trees are looking weary and troubled - and leaves are falling off in a steady torrent reminding all with gardens that now is the time to get lawns mown, leaves collected and composted, borders and shrubs cut bank, and branches trimmed - in fact the perfect time to rent garden equipment from your neighbour or someone in your community with an allotment and therefore equipment to hire to others.

Apparently, it is one of those times of the year again. Articles upon articles about the latest trends in clothing style and designer looks have given it away quite clearly, so I am pretty sure most of you will be aware that it has been London’s turn in fashion weeks’ season. If not, you might instead know that the BAFTAs Ceremony, the Grammy Awards, the BRIT Awards and the Oscars are taking place in this period too, accompanied by the range of stunning evening dresses and suits flaunted on the red carpet. Anyhow, it is a fact that we are currently bombarded more than usual with images of fashion goddesses and gods, which we spend ages going through, rather than concentrating on coursework.

When we began thinking of RentMyItems.com as the online answer to all your household rental needs, whether as a Rentor or Rentee, little did we think that people would take the opportunity so soon to rent something that, if not quite household, is held by virtually all houses. The item we’re talking about? A car!
Even though a car is a ‘big ticket item’ as a Rentor you can still receive up to two months FREE listings for this type of item. So if your car is sitting in your driveway, or on the road, most of the week, why not think of listing it today FREE of charge, and make a little bit of extra money by renting it to a neighbour or someone in your local community.

When Saturday mornings were dull and the UK was in a blip, the live TV show Multi-Coloured Swap Shop was launched to the nation, hosted by a radio DJ who would become the nation’s favourite – none other than Noel Edmonds. Each Saturday morning Noel and his bunch of fun-buddies would entice us all to swap things with each other – be it the latest toy that was more ‘past-it’ than ‘a must have’, or a hair-dryer that had been replaced and was now sitting on a shelf unused. The live TV show’s cornerstone was this Swaporama element which saw an outside broadcast from a different location throughout the UK where children (primarily!) could swap their belongings with others.

2011, the year that the world’s population hit 7 billion, just 12 years after hitting the 6 billion mark in 1999, and 24 years after hitting 5 billion in 1987. The world’s population has doubled since 1967, in a single generation. The U.N. projects that the world population will reach 8 billion by 2025, 10 billion by 2083. For now, China remains the most populous nation, with 1.34 billion people. In the past decade it added 73.9 million, more than the population of France or Thailand.
